The Spooked Chicken recently received permission to conduct an investigation set for Aug 16th-17th into the famous Michigan establishment: The Doherty Hotel. The history behind the hotel is filled with everything from mobsters to travelers, from speakeasy to family restaurant. The hotel has had a very colorful history during its first 100 years. However, one of the most well known tragedies that occurred in The Doherty Hotel was the murder of Isaiah Leebove.

The Spooked Chicken investigation team are focused on trying to find out if any of the ghost stories this establishment is famous for, turn out to be not only true, but are able to be documented and reordered and brought to the readers of The Spooked Chicken.

Some important back story...

The Spooked Chicken investigation team drove up to Clare on July 20th, 2019 in hopes that they could reserve their rooms in advance so they could get that checked off of their to-do list and focus on doing as much research at the local libraries to find out any missing information on the Doherty that they did not already have. The research team was hoping to find anything new that was not published on the Doherty's website.

Upon arrival at the hotel, the team reserved the rooms and the manager that helped them, told the team to go a head an feel free to look around and record what every you would like, he went on to say the hotel usually has around 3-4 investigation teams a year.

The Spooked Chicken team did not know in advance they would be allowed to conduct an EVP investigation this day. As a result the team did not have any questions prepared, but they did have some of their equipment with them.

The investigation team, The Spooked Chicken usually goes into an EVP having a list of questions they like to ask. They never enter an EVP investigation with the mindset to provoke something. There are a lot of evil spirits and entity's out there, so they do not align their question's with a hostile tone because they do not want to provoke something simply because you never know who or what will be responding.

The investigation team, excited to have the permission to have extra time to investigate, was not at all disappointed. While walking the hallway between the conference rooms and the tap room (the room that Isaiah Leebove's life was taken) The Spooked Chicken investigation team, equipped with just a voice recorder and camera set fourth down the hallway in hopes to capture someone or something that would like to communicate. The team, upon review of their audio file captured this... take a listen.

After hearing the sounds of walking and the stopping of the elevator you can hear lead Investigator Boyd Levitt say 'did you hear that?' well before uploading this audio recording to the blog post the team did not hear anything before team member saying that. However, if you listen around the 3 second mark you can hear a women say 'I love you'. Then moments after you can hear the plain as day EVP of a man saying he has a gun. This was recorded outside of the Tap Room where Isaiah Leebove was shot and killed by his business partner, cousin and fellow Purple Gang member Carl Jack Livingston.

It is said that Leebove still haunts The Doherty Hotel. Is this proof that he is still there? Is it to be speculated that he is there only because his cousin was acquitted of all charges, leaving his murder without justice? You decide.

After conducting their investigation in the main lobby area the team headed downstairs in the basement where previous guest and staff of the hotel have heard voices and have been touched. The team headed down there to see what they could uncover. However, the team could not find much evidence, but team leader Boyd Levitt did have a story once he left the basement.

Team leader Boyd Levitt has been a paranormal investigator for about six years. Despite the countless amount of EVP's he has never been touched by a entity, that was until his visit at the Doherty.

'A slight tug on my arm' Levitt said. 'That was all it was, I thought maybe it was my daughter who we brought in with us to the hotel, because it was so gentle and located so low on my arm. It had to of been from a child.' Team leader Boyd Levitt then continued 'So I turned around, kind of smiled because it was the first time I have ever been touched by something I could not explain. So I took a picture but my camera died immediately following the picture, hopefully we found something with that photo, but if not I at least have an experience of being touched by something unexplained, so that is interesting.'

After reviewing the photo the team could not find anything that would indicate anything supernatural or paranormal, maybe you can see something. Take a look.

After investigating the bottom of the Doherty then working past the lobby/tap room they already investigated. The Spooked Chicken investigation team then worked their way up the stairs of the original hotel and began to record up there.

In their research of the Doherty, they found that many guest would say that they would hear someone knock on their door multiple times, just to open the door and find no one was there. So the team had a good indication that if they investigate the multiple levels of the guest rooms that they might be able to pick something up. The team began to walk the original guest room hallways with a recorder going, simply for whoever or whatever wanted to talk. It seemed someone did want to talk. Take a listen.

A lot of things going on in this EVP. First, as mentioned before the team leader had his daughter with him in the hotel. You can clearly hear his child running down the hallways and you can hear the multiple 'Shh's' coming from Team leader Boyd Levitt.

However...

These are the things that the team can not explain away...

  1. 6 Seconds: You hear the name Hannah. (Team members include: Boyd Levitt Sr, Courtney Levitt) No one by the name Hannah.

  2. 8 seconds: You can hear a man say 'You've been gone so long'

  3. 10 Seconds: A women's voice whispers 'Pay me'

  4. 22 seconds: A women screams 'Help...me'

  5. 28 seconds: A women whispers 'Hey this is crazy Hannah'

  6. 32 seconds: What seems to be the same women whispers 'Hannah Its cold outside Hannah'.

One thing to keep in-mind. This investigation was done on July, 20th 2019. It was 96 degrees outside.

What could these voices be?

Now, the Doherty Hotel served as a speakeasy. That would explain this conversation from the past that The Spooked Chicken happened to overhear, 90 years later. The question that this EVP answers is whether or not that part of this haunting is residual or intelligent.

Most haunting's that the Spooked Chicken come across are residual (echoes from the past). Intelligent haunting's are haunting's that can move items, try to make direct contact such as your name. The Spooked Chicken have found that sometimes they can coexist in a home. Rare, but can happen.

This quick EVP was just the tip of the iceberg. The Spooked Chicken Investigation team was only in the Doherty Hotel for about 40 minutes. 20 minutes of their investigation was with the voice recorder going. Eight minutes with the camera charged.

So that leaves the question. What will The Spooked Chicken find over their scheduled two night investigation on Aug 16th-17th. One things is for sure, if it is as active as that 40 minute investigation, the investigation set to come should be even more spooky.
